Note that the only difference in the covers is ESV vs. CEV on the front, spine, and back (tiny) and the bar codes. CEVs will be thinner.
Commentary: While a book should not be judged by its cover, I think some covers beckon the browser to “pick me up”. They then read the back cover, and hopefully are drawn further in. The sandglass blazes an image in the mind … the browser understands that they are not getting any younger. The deep sky-blue (#33b7e2) and Dear Reader emote warmth. I hope the browser is intrigued.
Then again, at least initially, and perhaps permanently, the book is offered “print on demand” only. Individual bookstores request what books they want printed ahead of time and it could be that the Dear Reader books never end up in a bookstore. (I assume bookstores use the NY Times best seller list or other such rating systems. They probably also have a list of authors or topics that they have confidence in.)
