Ch.10

CEV: Abraham, Accepted by Faith
ESV: Abraham, Justified by Faith

And Abraham
took the wood of the burnt offering
and laid it on Isaac his son.
And he took in his hand

the fire and the knife.
So they went both of them together.
And Isaac said to his father Abraham,
“My father!”
And he said, “Here I am, my son.”
He said, “Behold,

the fire and the wood,
but where is the lamb
for a burnt offering?”
Abraham said,
“God will provide for himself
the lamb for a burnt offering, my son.”
So they went both of them together.
(Genesis 22:6–8)

CEV Circle diagram 6: Here is the Abrahamic covenant represented by the three circles that I mention in the text. Abraham is promised to be the father of many nations and kings. One of the many nations will be God’s special nation, to be known as Hebrew Israel (also known as the Jews). This nation will be the descendants of Abraham’s son Isaac and Isaac’s son Jacob. The Rescuer will come out of that special nation. He and those whom He rescues may be called Christian Israel. In time it will be known as the church, the bride of Jesus Christ.
