The Old (Mosaic) Covenant
“The Lord, the Lord,
a God merciful and gracious,
slow to anger,
and abounding in steadfast love
and faithfulness,
keeping steadfast love for thousands,
forgiving iniquity
and transgression and sin,
but
who will by no means clear the guilty,
visiting the iniquity of the fathers
on the children
and the children’s children,
to the third and the fourth generation.”
(Exodus 6b–7)
CEV Circle diagram 7: God’s special nation now numbers a couple of million people. Some among them are rescued by their faith, and many among them are not. The rescued who die join other believers in heaven. God will preserve that special nation, at least until the Rescuer is born. (The prophet Hosea, as interpreted by the Holy Spirit inspired Gospel writer in Matthew 2:15, tells us that the Rescuer is the whole point of the special nation.) As for the other nations, Satan has permission to fool them. Every now and then, God saves someone from the many nations, demonstrating that He is in charge, not Satan. These non-Jews (Gentiles such as Rahab, and Ruth) tend to live near Hebrew Israel.
