Ch. 9

The Rebellion at Babel

Now the whole earth had one language
and the same words.

…
Then they said,
“Come, let us build ourselves a city
and a tower
with its top in the heavens,
and let us make a name for ourselves,
lest we be dispersed
over the face of the whole earth.”
(Genesis 11:1, 4)

CEV Circle diagram 5: God rescued Noah and his family, including three sons. His youngest son, Ham, mocks him, and Noah foresees ungodliness and lowliness in Ham’s descendants. His oldest son, Japheth, and his middle son, Shem, do not mock their father. For Japheth, Noah foresees more and more land, and his descendants will rule Ham’s descendants. For Shem, Noah foresees nearness to God. He will not occupy as much land as Japheth, but Shem’s descendants will also rule over Ham’s descendants. The line of Shem will be most like the line of Seth, and the Rescuer will come from this line.
